Ironing

How in the world are you supposed to iron sheets??

I got this cute new bedding from Delia's with my Christmas gift card and just got it in the mail today. Of course it was all folded up and smooshed and in a tiny box, so I got everything out and put it in the wash. Now everything is totally wrinkly, so I guess Ill iron it.

I got the pillow cases down just fine, but when I got to the sheets its like where do I begin?! How do I get the middle? It takes forever because my ironing board is about 1/16th the width of the sheet. Im scootchin it and swirling it all around, and by the end I cant tell where Ive already ironed and where I haven't.

I know some crazy people actually do iron their bedding every time they wash it, and I want to know, is there some secret I dont know? Do they have special ironing boards that are big enough to cover the whole bed?

Or do I just need to learn a LOT more patience and take the time to make it nice.

GIRL, you iron while you sleep!
By morning, the wrinkles are all gone.
My mom ironed sheets, (and everything else) but that's because we didn't have drying machines in Hungary back then.
This is America, we don't iron sheets here.

Well, I would wash them first because I have a weird thing about not sleeping on sheets without them being washed. Then, the dryer will make them all nice and soft, and no ironing needed!!

This is your Grandma speaking. We always ironed sheets. What you do is fold them lengthwise in half. You start on one end with part of the sheet on the ironing board and the rest hanging off the side. Then you iron and keep moving the sheet up. When you get to the bottom, turn the sheet so that the other side is hanging off. Iron that part. Keep moving the sheet up and ironing it. Then fold it again and you can do the other side. Now it's easier because you have folded it twice. Keep ironing and folding until you are done. It is actually quite easy and goes pretty fast.
When I was young, in the olden days, I had to iron all of the sheets for the whole fam. A sheet does feel really good just washed and ironed. Good luck!

sweetie...didn't I raise you better than that? Listen to your step mom, sleep on the sheets and in the morning the wrinkles will be gone :)

Did you ever see us iron a sheet? or towel?

Dani, quit trying to act like you're all domestic. You know you will just throw them on the bed and sleep on them=) Just steam roll them out sista!

Hi Dani,
It's me again. I actually gave up ironing sheet a long time ago except if you have a 100% cotton one, then you can just iron the top edge that get's folded over. It will look just as good.
I see you got a lot of good advice.
I love you and I think you are a domestic diva.:)

Dani, I read your post and then I was excited to read all the comments because I've always wondered the same thing. I only iron the sheets that my guests will sleep with, if I want to impress them. And I just iron them ON the bed. . . and only the top that shows. . . you know. . . I pull the top sheet up too high, fold it over and iron that part. Natalie's way sounded too complicated. . . I think sometimes those expensive sheets aren't wrinkle free. . .like most sheets are, I bought some expensive lace edged pillowcases with some wedding money and had the same problem. . . good luck cute thing! all of your comments on this are hilarious. you are prego, you aren't supposed to do anything, let alone iron sheets. you have the next several months to use your pregnancy as a valid excuse. milk it for all it's worth :) actually, i think i was a little bit more ocd when i was pregnant, i probably would have tried to iron the darn things cause it would've peeved me everytime i were to look at the bed...so i understand. good luck.

Sheets...you iron your sheets?
I usually shake out the diaper, flush, and throw the diaper in the garbage. But hey if you want to iron the sheet, your going to have alot of ironing to do when that baby comes. Im not sure about the people who say just lay on it and roll around either.
miss you guys...uncle durk
